ISIS Imagines Their Flag Atop the Obelisk in St. Peter’s Square October 13, 2014 by Kathy Schiffer 7 Comments St Peters Square and obelisk - 1909 St. Peter’s Square and the obelisk, circa 1909 DabiqDabiq, the online propaganda magazine published by the Islamic State, is named after the town of Dabiq in northern Syria. The town is mentioned in a hadith (a prophetic saying by the prophet Mohammed) about Armageddon, the great final battle at the end of time. According to Islamic tradition, Dabiq is the place where the Muslim and Christian armies will eventually face each other. The magazine has just released their new edition, the fourth issue–and there, on the front cover, is St. Peter’s Square as you’ve never seen it. That’s in, as you’ve NEVER seen it. There is a photoshopped picture of the obelisk in the Square–that noble Egyptian obelisk which was set into place in 1586, and which marks the center of St. Peter’s Square–with the black Islamic flag flying atop it. First, let’s set the record straight: That never happened. * * * * * Apparently, the Islamic State imagines this ignominious end to the Roman Catholic Church.
