ISIS, Rojava (West Kurdistan) & Turkey update for beginners: * Battle between ISIS and the YPG/YPJ (Peoples/Womens Protection Units) continue in Kobane. (see map) What is at stake if Kobane fell includes: - hundreds of thousands would face massacre, - as it is one of the 3 autonomous regions in the Rojava revolutions, the connection between the other regions would be interrupted, - ISIS would have a unified zone in control for arms transfer as well as oil trade * Hundreds of non-stop solidarity protests in Turkey are still on. A total of 24 people died in combined attacks of ISIS-supporters and Turkish police forces. Countless detentions, injuries and arrests follow. (see photo in Siirt where the last death took place) Curfew was announced in 6 Turkish cities to stop the protests. Public workers called for a general strike on October 8th and October 9th. Army took streets in Esenyurt, Istanbul (see photo) to prevent any possible protests. * International solidarity protests include 7 Austrian Green party deputies occupying the Turkish embassy in Wien and 100+ protesting inside the European Parliament in Brussels. * Spokesperson of the Kobanê Canton Administration stated that urgent help is needed by thousands of civilians who have recently settled in the town after the evacuation of villages for safety reasons.
