ISIS and the conspiracy theorists: Frankly, I am tired of seeing on my news feed people complaining about ISIS being a handiwork of Jews/Israel/Mossad/CIA etc. Why cant Muslims accept that there is an extremist strand within us Muslims who are purely inbred and not manufactured by outside forces? Please, people, stop this nonsensical rhetoric that even you will admit has NO unambiguous proof. Please dont confuse correlation with causation: Just because the acts of ISIS give Islam a bad name and further helps outside forces to exploit the internal division of Muslims doesnt mean that they were manufactured by those outside forces. Are you unaware of your own history? Have you forgotten about the Khawarij? Qaramitah? Safavid? Ismailiyyah? Hashshashin? All the above groups descend from Muslims and came into existence independently. No support from anyone on the outside. In fact, some of these groups fought tooth-and-nail against outside forces to protect the center. Some of these groups were overly religious and followed the Islamic law to its literal fullest. Yet, they killed other Muslims with gay abandon and in the most gruesome and brutal ways. They didnt spare the Sahabah; the shaair of Islam; the monuments; the people at large - men, women and children alike. So what makes you doubt today that these groups are homegrown and a (warped) reaction to some of the worst political injustices coupled with the extremist ideological strand that the Muslim world has been grappling with for CENTURIES? Much before America or Israel were ever created! Please people STOP fooling yourselves and others. Just because these groups might have some help from foreign forces doesnt mean they are fully controlled by them. If you want a SOLUTION to our problems then the very first step is to DIAGNOSE the problem correctly. If you choose to lie to yourselves this way then you will only prolong your stay in this rut. IDENTIFY the problem and you will find the obvious way to address it.
