ISIS is near the Baghdad airport and many are speculating that they are going to take the city. I am a lone voice in the woods but I do not think so. Consider the following points: 1) The Shia MAJORITY have few places to go except south towards Karbala if ISIS attacks the city so you wind up with a majority who must fight or die. Is that the situation that ISIS wants to be in. The Shias have run off and left equipment when attacked by Sunnis in the villages to the west but that was because most of the population in those areas was Sunni. Baghdad is SHIA. They have no option but to stand and fight. 2) Does ISIS really want to provoke Iran into defending their fellow Shias in Baghdad? I think not. But that is what an attack on Baghdad would result in. 3) How could a Sunni minority control a city of Shias the size of Baghdad? It would be very difficult and would take a long time to accomplish. Yes, Saddam Hussein did it but he did not have to worry about Iran. 4) Is ISIS just posturing to keep the Shias guessing? I think that they are and do not believe they are planning an all-out attack on the City of Baghdad. They have too much to lose. I think they will make attacks on the margins but they will not go into the city itself. NOW, I could be wrong and only time will tell but keep watching and lets see where this all goes.
