ISLAND: TRINIDAD & TOBAGO EMPLOYER: THE JUDICIARY OF TRINIDAD & TOBAGO INDUSTRY: LEGAL POSITION: FINANCIAL SPECIALIST CATEGORY: FINANCE LEVEL: EXPERIENCED (NON MANAGER) WORKING EXPERIENCE: 3-5 YEARS QUALIFICATIONS: BACHELORS DEGREE IN ACCOUNTING, FINANCE, BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION OR A RELEVANT FIELD The Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago is in the process of building its organizational capabilities to ensure an accountable court system where timeliness and efficiency are key hallmarks. In this regard, the Judiciary is now seeking to recruit a suitably qualified individual to fill the following contract position in the Family Court of Trinidad and Tobago. FINANCIAL SPECIALIST Assist the Family Court management in the administration of all financial and commercial activities of the court and ensures the achievement of the Family Court strategic financial objectives. Job Summary An employee in this class would be responsible for supporting the Family Court management in the delivery of proper and adequate internal financial control systems, procedures, practices and policies. That accounting records are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and that the resultant records, reports and statements are produced with accuracy and are timely and that the controls will: o Safeguardthecourt’sassets. o Preventthemisuseand/ormisallocationofitsfinances. o Ensure quality standards of work are set and agreed and is performed by all supporting staff, and o That the quantity of work delivered is sufficient to meet the court’s overall financial objectives the first time, every time and within time in accordance with the quality standards set and agreed. Key duties and responsibilities • Develops the Finance Unit of the Family Court to include the selection of competent professional, technical and other support staff for the unit. • Develops and implement sound financial policies and procedures. • Provides timely and accurate financial statements, monthly management accounts and other special reports, as these are required. • Prepares the Family Court annual recurrent and capital estimates, projections and budgets for revenues, expenditure. • Prepares monthly/quarterly budgets and forecast and monitor compliance. • Monitors the financial performance against budgets and forecasts and to provide periodic explanation of variances to aid in the maintenance of the strategic financial direction. • Maintenance of all ledgers registers and records to ensure the accuracy of all accounting transactions. • Prepares the finance and accounting records for periodic review by both Internal and External Auditors. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Thorough knowledge of accounting and financial planning and financial management principles and practices. • A good analytical mind with the ability to interpret financial information. • Extensive and varied finance and business development skills. • Ability to organize, prioritize and plan workloads. • Ability to work under pressure in an external and internal deadline intensive environment, while maintaining a high level of service. • Ability to establish, build and maintain a good working relationship with all members of Business Team. • Have a good very good understanding and working knowledge of Excel. • Excellent communicator at all levels, with strong interpersonal, report writing, verbal and numeracy skills. • Good presentation skills, in being able to share knowledge & deliver training to staff. Minimum Qualifications and Experience • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a closely related field. • Postgraduate diploma in the above mentioned or in any closely related field would be an asset. • 3-5 years experience in the field of financial operations and management, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
