ISSUE: MEDICAID EXPANSION Looking for an Opportunity to contribute to Pure Michigan? For a” Pure Michigan “ we need a Healthy Michigan. From our perspective here at Disability Advocates we urge you to join with us to help get Medicaid Expansion passed here in Michigan. Medicaid expansion in our state could directly assist 34,000 uninsured people right here in Kent County. Across the State it will help the 50,000 uninsured direct care workers who daily provide care for the disabled and the elderly. These critical caregivers are not currently provided health insurance and at their average wage of $9 dollar an hour pay, they would be eligible for health coverage under the Medicaid Expansion here in Michigan. This is a huge indirect benefit to people with disabilities. That, my friends, is helping 84,000 people we know as neighbors, friends, children and caregivers. This is just a portion of the 400,000 citizens who could benefit. We can help have an impact on getting this done. Let’s not let this opportunity pass Michigan by. Our Governor Synder was in Grand Rapids recently lobbying citizens across Michigan to call their Senators as often as they can to get the legislature to provide a Healthy Michigan by voting yes on Medicaid expansion michigan.gov/snyder/0,4668,7-277-60279-306974--,00.html The Michigan House voted yes. The Senate has delayed acting. The Governor calls for action on what he refers to as a “common sense solution” an opportunity to help Michigan citizens live healthier lives and save the State money.
