ISTANBUL MEHMET In 2009 I was invited to join the Istanbul Mehmet family and was honored to have a signature ride cymbal developed in partnership with this great company. I remember how much I learned about cymbals in those days and still do. ..lots of Mp3 samples came to me sent by Hakan Açıkalın with the prototypes sounds and then we would talk about the sounds, colors, dynamics. ..some great time! Mr. Mehmet and the Mehmet family are really true masters in the art of cymbal making. I remember, when we talked about the cymbal finishing, I sent to Hakan a picture like this one (is a part of the big Sugar Loaf hill located very close to my home in Rio de Janeiro) and asked him to have my cymbal raw finished like this piece of nature, an homage to the Maverick hearts, wild and untamed. In the end, my signature is Raw finished in the top part and brilliant in the bottom. ..just like life and its contrasts.
