IT COULD BE GOOD MORNING PDP FOR 2015. If it is true that the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, has said the party has no plan to anoint anyone for any elective office in 2015, this could be a huge turning point for the Peoples Democratic Party. The PDP is notorious for its lack of internal democracy. It lost Imo State in 2007 when it denied Senator Ifeanyi Ararume the partys ticket, despite the Supreme Court judgment in his favour. The party decided to work against its own candidate because he was not OBJ and his co-travellers choice. The PDP is yet to recover from that misadventure. There are other instances. However, thats not the focus of this short post. Monitored reports stated that the National Chairman of the PDP said that contestants for 2015 general elections would emerge through transparent primaries to be conducted by the party and that members of the party would be allowed to choose their leaders without any interference from the national leadership of the party. This is interesting. If PDP will allow internal democracy to reign in the party, it means that it is sincerely committed in re-building. This will help reduce the conflicts and tension in the party. It will also drive the other political parties to the same direction to avoid wreckage. One issue that is agitating my mind now is: does it mean that Mr. President will not have automatic ticket to be affirmed by the members? In other words, he will undergo primaries with the other contenders? It will be interesting to watch how it turns out. My prayer is GOD Almighty grant us life and good health to witness 2015 general elections. I sincerely hope that INEC will insist on provisions of the Electoral Act and party Constitutions on nomination of candidates by political parties for 2015 general elections.
