IT IS ALL THAT IS LEFT BUT IT IS STILL NOTEWORTHY OLD BRIDGE ABUTMENT Remains of bridge (abutment wall), built 1868-9. Bridge dismantled, post-1967. Now in use as promenade/viewing platform. . Appraisal The remains of a Classically-composed bridge representing the sixth of seven bridges recorded as spanning or having at one time spanned the River Barrow at New Ross. Positioned overlooking the River Barrow, the fragments survive to the present day as an appealing component of the urban landscape heritage of the town: meanwhile, a discreet benchmark remains of additional interest for the connections with cartography and the preparation of maps by the Ordnance Survey.
