IT IS FORBIDDEN TO TAKE GRAVES AS MASJIDS: Ubaidullih bin Abdullah reported that Aishah and Ibn Abbas said: When the Messeneer of Allah (Sallahu Alayhi Wasalam) was on his deathbed; he had a Khamisah over his face. When his temperature rose, he would uncover his face. While he was like that he said: May Allah curse the Jews and Christians, for they took the graves of their Prophets as places of worship. (Sahih) [Sunan Nasai Vol 1| Book Of The Masjids | Hadith No.704] It was narrated from Aishah that Umm Habibah and Umm Salamah mentioned a church that they had seen in Ethiopia, in which there were images. The Messenger of Allah (Sallahu Alayhi Wasalam) said: Those people, if there was a righteous man among them, when he died they built a place of worship over his grave and made those images. They will be the most evil of creation before Allah on the Day of Resurrection. (Sahih) [Sunan Nasai Vol 1| Book Of The Masjids | Hadith No.705] It was narrated that Anas Ibn Malik said: The Messenger of Allah (Sallahu Alayhi Wasalam) said: The Hour will not begin until the people compete in (Building) masjids. (Sahih) [Sunan Ibn Majah Vol 1| Book Of The Masjids and The Congregation | Hadith No.739] It was narrated that Abu Saeed Khudri said: The Messenger of Allah (Sallahu Alayhi Wasalam) said: All the earth is a mosque, except for graveyards and Hammam (Wash room/ Toilet). (Sahih) [Sunan Ibn Majah Vol 1| Book Of The Masjids and The Congregation | Hadith No.745] Comments On Hadith -> If the graves of polytheists are removed and their skeletons are taken out and disposed off, a mosque may be built there. But the graves of the Muslims, the righteous, the Prophets, etc. deserve respect. Such graves should not be removed, and mosques should not be built in their place. Umm Salamah and Umm Habibah along with their husbands were among the emigrants who had emigrated to Ethiopia (Habasha or Abyssinia). It was the land of the Christians. The Christians prophets: It denotes the disciples (of Isa) and the righteous men, because the Christians considered them lie prophets and obeyed them unconditionally. Competing in masjids has been interpreted in two ways 1) People will boast of their wealth and prosperity in the mosques. 2) They will vie with each other in the building of mosques. Prohibition on performing prayers in the graveyard is meant to avoid any resemblance of prostrating before the graves. Some people build their mosque close to the grave of a holy man or Prophet under the assumption that praying by the side of the deceased holy man is a virtuous act. Allah of this is prohibited in Islam. SADLY MANY MUSLIMS OF TODAY ARE INVOLVED BLINDLY IN SHIRK, MANY PEOPLE ARE BUILDING MASJIDS TO SHOW OF WEALTH AND BEAUTIFYING IT TO MORE THEN NECESSARY. DO NOT FALL INTO THE DEVIATED SECTS THAT HAVE IN FACT LEFT THE FOLD OF ISLAM. REINFORCE YOURSELVES WITH AUTHENTIC ISLAMIC KNOWLEDGE THE MORE ACQUIRED THE LESS IGNORANT YOU SHALL BECOME. INSHAALLAH Allahu Mustaan
