IT TAKES A VILLAGE Right now Im reading about the Friendly Societies, which were a cooperative that people paid into to help them out during tough times - when they needed a doctor, when theyd lost their job, if they were widowed and needed money. It was a friendly insurance policy and because you and other local people paid in, the Friendly Society didnt quibble and try to get out of paying if you hit hard times. This is the way forward against the monster that has become global industrialization, to re-establish the interdependence of local community.
