ITALO - The famous Sicilian dog - to underline the good citizenship that Scicli,(a town in the Ragusa province), has for this very intelligent and almost human dog,who was named ITALO BAROCCO, so as to make him particularly loved so much beyond the borders of Sicily by both Italians and foreigners. This dog reaches Scicli in 2006. Some say left alone after the death of his elder master, someone else imagines because abandoned by a homeless man. But Italo never wanted to tell anyone his story. At the beginning the citizens did not accept him but after a while he became a friend to all. He chooses the path of Mormina Penna Street in front of a pizzeria,as its new home because there he is sure to be able to eat.And he began to attend Mass at St. John. The pastor gets upset and puts out a sign: It is forbidden to enter dogs. Italo pretends to be illiterate and goes to mass the same. After some time he started to learn the tour of tourist guides,so he starts to precede the tourists, to route them. The dog finally enters in the popular imagination during the funeral of a young man who died in a car accident. The night before the funeral he vigils in front of the church and the next day to the amazement of all, opens the funeral procession in front of the coffin. He also goes to greet the children from school and enters the scenes of all the towns feastivities.. The citizens started to wonder:Who is Italo? What is Italo? The reincarnation of someone who loved Scicli?. He supervises the historic Unesco, chases cars in transit through the restricted traffic zone. Goes to Mass on Sundays. Attends funerals, weddings, religious festivals. All documented, photographed, filmed. Italo passed away 2 years ago and the town of Scicli donated a statue in his memory,a small monument that commemorates Italo at Villa Penna, where all his friends can bring a flower.Today, it has become a film shot in the same places of Inspector Montalbano, that will be in cinemas throughout Italy on January 15.This leads us to St. Francis of Assisi, that all creatures are equal and that all give praise to God.
