Amarillo Animal Shelter Given By...... 10,000 Plus Adoptable Shelter Pets Killed Every Year Special Occasion For This party?..... To Form A 90% Club At Amarillo Animal Shelter What is a 90% Club? it’s a small but expanding group of leaders in open-admission animal shelters that are saving pets at or more than 90% of their community’s impounded dogs and cats. Although they each have distinct personalities, backgrounds, and life stories, What all these shelter leaders have in common— an extraordinary “can do” attitude and an all-out insistence on rejecting traditional excuses for animal-shelter killing. Rejecting excuses, refusing to accepting killing as an option to reducing the number of animals housed at our shelter. Amarillo must embrace a “can do” attitude which is not only infectious, it is a key element of shelter success. A lot of people running animal shelters throw up their hands and say there are just “too many” animals, that animal-shelter killing is the inevitable result of the “irresponsible public” and “pet overpopulation,” that there simply aren’t any more adopters, resources to conduct spay/neuter services, or fosters in their communities. But joining the 90% club, instead of throwing your hands up, will result in Amarillo having natural leaders who reject excuses and accept nothing less than excellence. The mandatory programs and services Amarillo Needs and Must embrace soon to join the 90% club include: I. Feral Cat Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) Program 2. High?Volume, Low?Cost Spay/Neuter 3. Rescue Groups Transfers 4. Foster Care 5 Comprehensive Adoption Programs (including off-site adoptions) 6. Pet Retention Programs 7. Medical and Behavior Prevention/Rehabilitation Programs 8. Public Relations/Community Involvement 9. Volunteers Waiting for a new Director before implementing these or other programs is killing many adoptable shelter pets daily! Amarillo City Officials... dragging your feet is causing the deaths of many adoptable homeless pets. The solution to this has been discussed, handed to you and demanded by many of the concerned citizens in Amarillo.
