ITS BETTER TO LIGHT A CANDLE THAN TO CURSE THE DARKNESS. From Elizabeth at The Wounded Mother. This is whats on my heart with everything thats in the air right now. This is very close to my heart and I am passionate about it so apologies now for the length of this post!.. Since I arrived in Graaff Reinet 7 years ago II have seen children and babies living (and dying) on the local rubbish tip, heard of a man raping an 8 year old girl right out in the open on the street of the nearby township and no-one being brave enough to help her and meeting hundreds of extraordinary women and young people who brim with talent - but have nowhere to use it. This is a very beautiful place - but harsh and hard for the communities who have no money and little hope. There are very few jobs and almost no opportunities. I REALLY want to make a difference and I believe that education is the way out of poverty and ignorance. The wonderful headmaster of a local Primary School, Me Carelse (affectionately, and respectfully, known to one and all as Mr Bunny!) allowed me to use some of his classrooms to start off this off this project (see link for the details). It brought hope to a desperately poor area. Now we keep being asked - when does the next class start? I hate saying I dont know? I am trying to find the money for it Not surprisingly the local peoples faces drop - they know how hard it is to find money. Their hearts dink again. I cannot bear it. I so want to help another group learn crafts and trades so they can sell them and their skills, basic interview skills so they can be proud as they look for work, teamwork skills to they are ready for todays workplace and much more. We are talking to local businesses who are ready to grow their businesses if they can find young people who are able to commit to the work and educated enough to make the most of it. That is what the Skills Hub did for the 37 people we had. Please will you help us? Even a small amount of foreign currency converts to a nice number of Rands You cannot know the difference being cared about, having somewhere to go and learn and a purpose for the day makes to our students. They blossom like flowers in the desert when it rains! If you cant donate come and see us here and help by being present. You will never regret it. For me this is my legacy project. I have no children of my own, I am 60 and nearly died this year from a heart attack - its sharpened my focus. I want to help - and I want to help now before it is too late for these wonderful young people and too late for me. Please please help by donating and sharing with everyone you know and send the news of the Camdeboo Womens Trust far and wide THANK YOU gofundme/94omzc
