ITS NOT THEIR BIRTHDAY, BUT... I rise today to celebrate two journalists of repute whose conducts showcased professional integrity and impeccable moral character. Sola Afolayan (formerly Sola Ogunode) was a news reporter with Daily Independent when I was Cadbury Nigerias Communications Manager some 12 years ago. When others hang around for anything for the boys...and of course, the girls, Sola would have been long gone! Before the week runs out, our story is out in well-reported journalistic prose. Sola was professionally competent, mentally sturdy and self-respecting. She never wore the born again tag nor the veiling masqueradic Arabian scarf...Rather, she was a regular secular lady just doing her job! After we set up our Firm, bufferzoneng, Joseph Adeyeye was Education Reporter with the Punch who accompanied me to the VI office of a Client to cover her story on Corporate and personal branding of credible milestones. Joseph delivered close to a full page story in PUNCH without collecting a dime! Joseph consistently reiterates his NON-OILY-PALM principle to such an extent that if you send him recharge cards, he would reforward them to you and vehemently oppose your pressure to induce him! Today, Sola as they say has become a Big Girl in DFID while Joseph is now a Director in Punch. They both still remain my close friends and I celebrate these rare beacons of hope in a nation whose supposed professionals have fallen to a low sink of debauchery! These two and few others like them represent the league of SUPERB Torchbearers to keep our hope alive for a possible SANER-MEDIA.
