IT’S EASY BEING A TRINITARIAN… - TopicsExpress

IT’S EASY BEING A TRINITARIAN… Until your theology gets challenged. I should know, because I was one. I never thought much about the doctrine of The Trinity, because I always figured “that’s just the way it was” - If you were Christian, you were Trinitarian. Nobody ever challenged me on it. When I was a kid, I remember hearing that my mom had attended some “Jesus Only” revivals, but I just thought it was weird that anyone could deny the Father or the Holy Spirit. Why would they worship Jesus only? How could they NOT believe that God was three persons? But then one day… I remember being invited to a “Pentecostal Revival” when I was 19 yrs. Old. It was powerful! I had never felt God like that before. I was baptized in Jesus’ name the same night. It wasn’t until the next day or so that I realized I had just been to a Oneness Apostolic Church. When I went back to my home church, my “experience” that night was challenged. I was told that I had not been baptized properly, and that the real way was to repeat the words of Jesus in Matthew 28: 19. I was shocked. My joy was taken. I was confused. If these “Jesus Only” people were wrong, why did their adoration of Jesus Christ and their love for people surpass anything I had ever seen before? For the next 6 months, I began my truth journey. To cut a long story short: I bought into the Oneness doctrine – hook, line and sinker. God gave me the revelation of God in Christ, and it was all wrapped up in one verse: 1 Timothy 3: 16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. During my search for truth, I was told by Trinity believers that the Oneness doctrine was unscriptural and heretical. Strangely enough, as I searched for myself, the Oneness doctrine that Jesus was God manifest in the flesh kept making more sense than the teaching of One God in three separate and co-equal persons. I was told by Trinitarians that I should not worry that the word, “Trinity” was not in the bible, because neither was the word, “Oneness”. Yet I kept seeing the word, “One” all over the bible. “God is One”, “His name is One”, “One God”, “One Lord, One faith, One baptism, etc”. I would highly recommend to any God- fearing person to search the scriptures for yourself. For 19 years, I just accepted what was preached over the pulpit without ever verifying or conducting a self-study. I find it interesting when someone tells me that the Oneness doctrine is “unscriptural”. Let me give you some examples of what I am referring to, then you decide for yourself which doctrine is unscriptural: Trinity believers told me I would never fully understand the Trinity; I would just have to accept the concept of “three persons in One God” by faith. But the bible told me that the Godhead can be understood (Rom. 1: 20), and proceeds to reveal the mystery. (1 Tim. 3: 16; John 1: 1). Trinity believers told me that “Jesus is in the Godhead”, but the bible told me that the Godhead is in Jesus, and that I am complete in Him. (Col. 2: 8 – 10) Trinity believers told me that Jesus was “God the Son”, but the bible told me that He was the Son of God (Luke 1: 35) Trinity believers told me that Jesus was the only “Eternal Son” of God, but the bible told me that Jesus was the only begotten Son of God. (John 3: 16; Galatians 4: 4) Trinity believers told me that Jesus was “The Second Person”, but the bible told me that Jesus is the First and the Last, the Beginning and the Ending, the Alpha and Omega. (Rev. 22: 13) So who exactly was using unbiblical terminology? I could go on and on, but I’ll wrap it up by adding that when you are trying to defend the doctrine of the Trinity, you will actually find yourself avoiding many scriptures, and the name of Jesus Christ. For example: 1. You will preach John 3: 3, but not John 3: 5. 2. You will preach Matthew 28: 19, but avoid Acts 2: 38. 3. You will use “in the name of Jesus Christ” in prayer for the healing of sickness, but you will not use it in water baptism for the remission of sins. 4. You will admit that Jesus could be both God and man, Lion and Lamb, King and Servant, but you will deny that He could be both Father and Son. 5. You will admit that salvation can only be found exclusively in NO OTHER NAME, yet you somehow think we are wrong for the exclusive use of that name. I urge all of my Trinitarian friends to search for yourself. Everyone should be able to confirm your faith in the scriptures. I’m not here to question your walk WITH God, or your devotion TO God. However, like Cornelius in Acts 10, who was as God-fearing and sincere as they come, there just may be a greater revelation awaiting you. God honored his sincerity by sending Peter to preach salvation to him. It may be that God is honoring YOUR sincerity by sending you these words of truth. God bless you is my prayer. “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” – Acts 17: 11 @
