IVE BEEN REDEEMED BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB Have you ever wondered why a lamb was sacrificed each Passover season or in the temple services of repentance, for the redemption of sin? To some other faiths, the idea of blood sacrifice seems archaic and even evil, but considering the times in which the sacrificial laws were initiated, animal and even infant sacrifices were common in many pagan religions. But that isnt why a blood sacrifice is required for the remission of sin. God told Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden that, if they disobeyed, they would die; death was mandated because God cannot lie and will not change the punishment required. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:16-17 KJV). From the day they sinned, their bodies began to age, time suddenly became important as they wondered how long this thing called death would take. And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. (Genesis 5:5 KJV). Imagine living hundreds of years waiting for the body to wear out... When Adam and Eve sinned and realized they were naked, they tried to hide their bodies from the very God who had created those beautiful bodies. God, understanding that they now knew evil thoughts, killed an animal, presumably the first lamb, and used its skin to make coverings for them. Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them. (Genesis 3:21 KJV). Once again, imagine the horror Adam and Eve must have felt watching the blood of that dear animal that Adam had taken time to name, shed just so their nakedness could be covered. In the New Testament, we are told, For as by one mans disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. (Romans 5:19 KJV). By the same principle, since For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23 KJV). But why did blood shedding have to be a part of that salvation; couldnt Jesus have just died a natural death and still met the requirement of dying for humanity? No, because God had set the rule in place before the foundation of the world. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:13-14 KJV). My
