IYOTSA 2014 IYOTSA is the International Year of the Secretary and Assistant. It takes place throughout the year of 2014. This year marks its 30th anniversary. Over 100 secretarial associations/organisations worldwide will be involved this year. Over the last few years, Secretaries and Assistants have been doing the roles of the middle management, in addition to their own roles, because many businesses have made the middle management structure redundant due to cost cutting. Initially Secretaries and Assistants were told it was for the short term and there was no increase in remuneration - only an increase in workload. They were also not offered any training to assist them with the additional role. But it was not for the short term and many continue with that same workload today. The aim of IYOTSA is to raise the profile of the Secretary and Assistant to a profession rather than just a job and showing businesses how they can best use those individuals in that profession, to add value to the business. Each country will have an official Ambassador for IYOTSA who will coordinate activities within the country. IYOTSAs charter has three parts to it: 1. Accurate Job Descriptions This needs to be an accurate reflection of their role and not a generic template 2. Personal Development and Training Companies will commit to invest in providing training. There will be various training conferences taking place throughout the year. 3. Opportunity to network with peers This is a great way to meet like minded people and share ideas and suggestion to make the role more effective.
