Ice Rescue Tip #3 - Do you need to make a hole in the ice for your drills? Replace the bar oil in your chain saw with a 4/1 mix of good liquid laundry soap (bio-degradable is best) and windshield washer fluid. This will lubricate the chain, wash off your suits and not freeze in sub-zero weather. Cut the ice off the top of your bar to hold down the amount of splash-back. If the depth of the ice is too much to sink, we use an antique ice tong and haul it out in smaller chunks. Finally, we chamfer the edge to add difficulty for the students practicing with ice picks.
