Ice-hockey Championship Trophy..ITBP grab runner up position..... Leh, January 23, (Scoop News)- An exciting final match was played between ITBP and LSRC (Red) for the 8th CEC Ice-hockey Championship Trophy (men) and in women wing the finals was played between Siachen Angels and SECMOL teams today. Exhibiting tough competition between ITBP and LSRC (Red) teams the match came to a deciding point when LSRC-Red players scored 2 goals in penalty shot out against 1 goal by ITBP players and thus begged the 8th CEC Ice-hockey Championship Trophy. CEC, LAHDC, Leh, Rigzin Spalbar who was the chief guest on the occasion congratulated the winning and the runners up team of both men and women wing. He said, “To win or lose is a part of game but today it’s the sport of Ice Hockey which has won.” He added that over the years this sport has evolved in terms of technique, sportsmen spirit and popularity. He stressed on the need for the Tourism department, Youth Services &Sports department and Winter Sports Club to work in close coordination to take this sport to a higher level. To further improve the standard of the game Spalbar proposed the concern stakeholders to work in advance for the next season ice-hockey tournaments and make prior arrangements to get more teams from other parts of India by promoting the game in a way of carnival with announcement of fixed dates all over the country. He also assured to extend full support from LAHDC in carrying these arrangements successfully. Making a mention of the suspended construction work of the ice-hockey stadium in Leh, CEC said that a total of Rs.23 crore was sanctioned for the stadium but despite every effort only three and half crore rupees has been released which has been used. He informed that to resume with the construction work LAHDC will be signing a MoU with Canadian High Commission team and Winter Sports Club, Leh who would then arrange funds and make a technically sound ice-hockey stadium at the earliest possible. He also expressed hope the army and paramilitary will extend their support in promoting this game in the region and specially the women team. Later, prizes were distributed to the winner and runners up team of men and women wing, position holders in kid’s race, under 19 girls’ race, 1000 meter men and women race and the tournament officials. Zakhir Hussain of ITBP team was declared the best players of the tournament and awarded with Rs. 10,000 cash, certificate and trophy.
