Id forgotten that Oktoberfest is already going on in Munich - it starts each year in September, goes for about three weeks, and ends in early October (even though its called Oktoberfest, they moved it back decades ago to enable it to be celebrated in better September weather). I enjoyed this article on how much the Germans pride themselves on their beer and their sausages - they very often have a particular local history with each one. Ive been to Munich three times and would go back again in a heartbeat - its probably the prettiest and most fun city in all of Germany. And its only about a four-hour train ride from Munich to Lohnsfeld - the town of the my German Pfeiffer ancestors and relatives for over 300 years - and I still have relatives Ive met and greatly appreciated and enjoyed, living there and running the Pfeiffer Bakery! :-)
