Id like to add The University of Newcastle. Name a disability and Ill name a barrier that need not exist. How about the accessible toilet in the newly refurbished GDT down a flight of stairs, any wheelchair user able to get their wheelchair up small steps can access GDT and the toilet by going through a carpark (never mind the danger of being in a cars reversing blind spot due to height), travel down an uneven bitumen service driveway and up two separate small steps can get in, improperly placed TGSI, website that is a nightmare for screen reader users, forms in inaccessible format, student hub with ticket line up system unusable by people who are blind or wheelchair users, counters in Hubs too high, inaccessible signage, no system to prevent students who are wheelchair users from having classes scheduled in inaccessible classrooms then making them miss up to 6 weeks of class while a new room is scheduled, inaccessible food oulet venues due to table set up and counter height, untrained note takers provide variable quality notes for students requiring this adaptation, inaccessible social events, poor education of staff in their responsibilities and awareness of rights of students with a disability even within services designed to assist students when they raise concerns about barriers, under staffed and under resourced disability services, staff in advocate roles unaware of DDA content or education standards...the list could go on.
