Id like to add a thought to the column: things we dont hear. Since August 9th, we hear much talk about the leaked video allegedly showing Michael Brown stealing cigars from the convenience store. What is amazing is how quickly Wilson defenders call both Brown and his companion that day thieves and thugs. Here is what we dont hear. There are at least two interviews with the convenience store owners attorney. In both of those interviews, the attorney keeps saying that the store owner NEVER said that Michael Brown stole any cigars (note- the second interview came after the convenience store was burned down). How about that! The accusation of theft came from a phone call of a store customer. Now, why havent we heard discussed the fact that the Ferguson Police did not arrest Michael Browns companion also shown on the silent video? The Ferguson police concluded after their investigation that there was no evidence that he, the companion, did anything wrong. Yet we keep hearing people in the media refer to them both as thugs, thieves, etc. Why is that? We know for a fact that at least one of them was investigated and found to be innocent of any crime. Finally, youll note that I mentioned above that the video was silent. We have no knowledge what the store owner might have said to Michael Brown to make him return and menace the owner.
