Id like to be neutral but Im not see through And the color of my skin threatens Were all different shades I suppose From different places, in different psychological spaces And although the blood that pumps through our veins is the same color You would never call me brother Or sister Because you cant grasp the essence of me Its impossible for you to see beyond what you fear I dont sympathize with looters and those who destroy Wrong is wrong and I know whats right But I understand the anger that a people feel When their environment dictates their life ... And death seems inescapable They cant see light Poverty, complacency, and the spirit of entitlement doesnt just show up in ones dna... they are mindsets- given life by circumstances and situations... chains and limitations... injustice and accusations... might just make you blow the block up too If you werent taught that love begets love and to treat others the way youd like to be treated regardless of how youve felt defeated, hate might beget a hate that your own mindset couldnt escape... and then youd name it. Become a slave to it. Serve it to satisfy your need to make someone pay. No Im not neutral. Heres why. No matter how hard I try to ignore whats before me, the fact remains that youll see color before I even speak. Youll think you know me based on statistics and stereotypes... grouping me with the collective based on your perception... conditioned by the tainted picture painted by media and pop culture. Youll want me to blend and bend and take up residence in nonsense to fit in... but I oppose... I know who I am. My son with his beautiful Brown skin deserves the right to be- live as he is... I mean as himself- so I teach him to love that skin hes in. Fight for whats right ..respectfully. Love God, himself, and his brother ..and objectively -free of emotional or psychological responses- try to understand the why when people die Whether by the hand of those who vowed to serve and protect, or by Cain who takes his brother down from lack of respect for life. He needs to understand what he may be up against and being neutral just shuts his eyes to the facts of matter.
