Id like to just have this rant after hearing about it yesterday and honestly it makes me feel horrible. Now I get that some cultures and religions dont celebrate christmas, and thats cool with me. I respect multiculturalism and other nations cultures. But having other cultures come into Australia and request that we change it from merry christmas to happy holidays Im sorry but, who do you think you are? This occurred when the muslim society within Australia organised a petition to change the name of the day to make it friendly to their culture. It makes me sick to think that other people come into this country, under OUR generosity and kindness, we give them homes, food and jobs, a nice life to be in, et they think they have the nerve to try and make US conform to what THEY want. Im sorry but you cant come into a country and demand that it works the way you want it. Youre here under our protection so you about by OUR customs and traditions. If i was to fly to Pakistan (not targeting muslims or the Pakistani culture, simply an example) and demand that women remove their burkas because it offends my religion and culture. Id be arrested or shot. So why is it any different over here in Australia? I get cultures are different. But you dont have the right to come to another country and try and force your cultural details on our traditions. If you dont like it then Im sure nothings stopping you moving back to where you came from. Now before a certain group of people come charging in for a fight. In no way am I racist, im quite multicultural, but I cant tolerate people trying to change our countrys ways when they have no right to
