Id like to remain anon please, but would like to post for anyone else in a similar situation. So my youngest turned 8 this month. Ive already had my telephone interview re Newstart, and been to the Job Access provider. I have two children, the eldest with multiple disabilities, am a single parent, and have been working 25 hours a week for 2 years already, having worked in my current position for 4. When I was on PPS, I was granted an exemption for looking for more work, because of my eldest childs care requirements. Nothing in my personal situation has changed. The only thing that has changed is the payment Im receiving. I asked Centrelink on a minimum of two separate occasions why I could not continue to receive an exemption? Their answer - because of the type of payment. My response, ok, well dont change me over. The reply: but your youngest is 8, so you must be changed over. The Job Access Provider is the one who can inform Centrelink about considering your situation... So I asked the JAP. No, no, Centrelink are the ones who make that decision, and they already have all of your information because youve only changed payments, nothing else. SIGH. Thinking that perhaps I could apply for Carer Payment, I find I am not eligible, because my child does not receive constant care in the home (my child attends school). So where does that leave me? It would be cruel to expect my child to cope with extra hours in a child care situation (Ive already tried that and it didnt work well for him) after spending the day coping with school. I feel it is unfair to us in this situation. Im not asking to NOT work, just not be expected to look for MORE. I cant do it. I cant. Im at capacity now working five days a week and being the sole carer for my children. And before anyone mentions respite - Ive been trying to access that for TWO YEARS now. There isnt any, unless I threaten to harm my children, and where would THAT lead?! Thankyou.
