Id like to share a post made today by Karl Werne, which includes a conversation we had earlier today about my dear friend Herbert Mugerwa in Uganda and The UBUNTU Project. Karl wanted to know whether Herbert and all that he does could possibly be for real. I replied candidly, not knowing that he would post our exchange. Im glad that he did. EVERYBODY needs to know about Herbert, and the amazing things that can be done when people with HUGE hearts come together like this. Were currently trying to raise some funds for a very special Christmas party for the children of the orphanage as well as the entire village of Buyana. There will be music and food and special treats. Last year many of you so generously donated toward the party, and this year we hope to raise even more funds so that it can be even nicer. Donations can be made through PayPal using the address cbrodsky@aol. Heres the exchange between Karl and me, just below Karls Black Friday post, which he made right afterward: ------------------------------- Karl Werne: Black Friday ... What an embarrassing example of what humans are capable of. Want to help change that? Please feel free to read on and consider using your powers for good. I am happy to find this message on this particular day. The following is this mornings message exchange between me & Chuck Brodsky about Mr Herbert Mugerwa. ------------------------------------------------------------------ (Karl) hey chuck - you seem to be my connection to mr herbert mugerwa can you tell me if his story and efforts are as real and beautiful as they appear? thanks for your time - and all the best to you from virginia - k (Chuck) Hi Karl - Thanks for asking about Herbert. He and I have chatted nearly every day for the past year and I can say with 100% conviction that he and what he is doing is even MORE real and beautiful than it appears. Truly. Meeting and getting to know him has been one of the greatest blessings of my whole life. I dont say that lightly. A whole bunch of other people whove come to know him all feel the same way. Incredibly, EVERY penny donated goes to exactly what the donor requests it be used for. There is no administration, there are no operating costs, nobodys on salary or gets paid at all (other than in pure joy). I hope youll take a deeper look at who he is and what hes doing. The videos he posts of his people receiving gifts and jumping, dancing, and singing with joy are awesome beyond belief. Every week or two I wire Herbert all of the donations that have come in, and the next day he personally does the shopping in Kampala. Then he takes a taxi 3.5 hours, and then another half hour by motorbike to reach the village of Buyana where he grew up, to distribute whatever was purchased. Then he has to make that same 4 hour journey home. Sometimes the motorbike taxis dont run and he has to hitchhike 3.5 miles in the dark back to Kampala. On his FB page you can find photos of the motorbikes loaded up with 2 or 3 mattresses. Herbert documents all of the gift giving with photos and videos, so you can see for yourself that your donation was used exactly as you wish. In less than a year about $30,000 has been wired over there. Weve bought an acre of land for a new orphanage, had it graded for future construction, and a number of the childrens school fees have been covered. Im pretty sure that shoes have been bought for everybody in the village...the first shoes theyve ever worn. Mattresses and bedding have been bought for many folks who never slept on anything but straw & the ground. I could go on and on. In fact Im tempted to. But I think by now you can see how sure I am that Herbert is a true saint. I want to tell the whole world about him, and I hope everybody else who is touched by him and his work will also want to do the same. Im really amazed and so proud of all of the people I know on FB whove seen my posts, checked him out, and become enthusiastic about joining in. One other thing...Herbert is also a great singer. You can search for him on youtube and find a few videos of him singing. Sort of Afro-pop gospel for lack of a better description. Sorry to go on and on about him, but my spirit soars anytime I just even think of him. I appreciate your caring enough to ask. Chuck ------------------------------------------------------------------ Folks, if this makes more sense to you today than trampling your brothers and sisters in a Wal-Mart for the sake of making our own countrys economic division and stupidity even worse than it is, in the name of Christmas ... (sigh) ... then please consider getting involved. Donations are accepted through PayPal account cbrodsky@aol
