Id like to take a moment to talk about power law distributions. As I understood it, Kickstarter was supposed to be about getting people who could not otherwise muster a funding campaign, and giving them a chance to connect with people who would buy their product. At a certain point, like everything, it has become just another mainstream distribution channel, where people with the widest networks get the biggest returns. As it ever was. Now, clearly the Oatmeal has a lot of talent, and the game looks hilarious and fun. But TWO MILLION DOLLARS? Then again, maybe Im just jealous that I cant manage that kind of networking.
