Id like to take just a second of your time and acknowledge a few people that deserve it.... Those that are close to me know my history in the music business. Those that dont...in a nut shell...I dedicated 30+ years to said business and man do I have some awesome memories. Im blessed to have friends in all facets of the industry. From artists in different genres, outstanding musicians right up to industry executives. I gave up the dream in 2011 but would be lying if I said that I didnt miss it. Once an entertainer...always an entertainer...you dont dedicate decades to something and just forget about it. Theres not a day that goes by that I dont crave playing for an audience. But...I trust in God and His plan for my life. Needless to say it has changed! Im currently training to manage my own Auto Zone and I love my job. Anyway...When I got back to SC it was literally like going back in time when just trying to sit in with a band in your own home town was difficult to do. It appears egos are plentiful and insecure musicians still exist that fear losing their moment in the spotlight regardless that this is all taking place in a bar!!! All of this to say that they arent all like that. People like Al George, Alice Meyer, Scott Rife, and Brent Hall still make room for a musician like me that misses the stage and keep me included when they can. Id be amiss if I didnt also include Billy Creason and his Damn If I Know band. His band members Chris Ferrell, Vernon Jordan and Donald Kuhns are and have always been very gracious to me when they come to town...even though I cant get Chris to come jam with me at The Porch! He knows what I mean! LOL! Also...a special hats off to JR Smith and Ross McClure for their dedication to live music and the promotional work they do with such professional demeanor. Ozzie Rawls and his...well lets say...enthusiasm (thats a good word!) he has for all his acts. He may own a club but he knows talent when he sees it and, from what Ive heard, he pays well for it. That too is rare! Last but certainly not least...I really think its cool that Mary Presley, husband and friends have a wonderful place for giving folks like Billy and the late Wayne Mills a place to go to let their hair down and jam without the job being a job... All of this to simply say..thank you...thank you for being who you are and know that this ol country boy appreciates you... Please dont ever change being who you are...You rock! If you know these folks then take time to acknowledge their just dues...I know theyll appreciate it too! Sincerely, DW
