Id like to take this moment when we are surrounded by public discourse about the danger to human life and well-being that is posed by traffic jams (delaying peoples commutes, slowing down ambulances, causing annoyance and stress etc) to point out that the VAST majority of the *billions* of human hours that are wasted in traffic every year are not caused by anti-racist or anti-capitalists shutting down highways, but rather by the chaotic eco-cidal human life wasting system that--like their tactics or not--these activists are at least trying to radically change. How many critically ill people die on the way to the hospital because of normal traffic jams? How many people are driven to heart attacks or other health problems due to the chronic stress that traffic produces? How much of global warming is caused by the needless carbon burning that traffic creates? Upset about having hours of your life wasted in traffic every day, lets talk about it: about the need to have some real system change, including radical changes to our transportation system. Im not saying you should like the tactics that these activists chose, but lets at least stop with talking like the toxicity of normal traffic is some natural thing, and like these activists-- in creating about 45 minutes of extra traffic-- did something worse than what the Patriots or Red Sox or Celtics or Mass DOT does on a regular basis.
