Id like to talk about the Rock For MS CD, Defeat Is Not An Option. While it is rich in body, filled with great songs from incredible artists, one is particularly special to me. Not only because its our performance, but more-so because of the song itself. Get Up Get Down was written by Jamie Page Guitars for me to sing. The music was written by Jamie as were the majority of the lyrics. We wanted to add something to this CD that encapsulated some of what its like to live with MS. We talked a lot about the emotions associated with my MS and also decided to try keep the lyric as central to general emotions as possible for it to be as accessible as possible for the listener. The song, both within the music and the lyric, covers the feelings associated with twists and turns and the anguish and fears that can be felt through anyones life when it is in an unpredictable, constant state of flux as well as struggle for balance and battle for personal power in uncertain terrain. The making of Get Up Get Down has been an authentic and organic process between the musicians: Jamie Page (guitars), Troy Brazier (drums), Craig Skelton (bass and keys), special guest Paul Reed Smith (on incidental guitar), myself on vocals and all of us on backing vocals along with engineer, Stuart James at the controls and recorded at The Soundfield Studio. We each interpreted our way through the song, stretching our creative abilities under the encouraging energy of Jamie, who insisted we all bring our own story to the process, which we did. We are very proud of the result and hungry for more after the experience. The first of many outstanding pieces from Jamie and the band over the coming months and year, Get Up Get Down opens the door to something greater than the sum of its parts. We believe you will be blown away with the diversity of the body of work on its way and where it will take you, as well as where it will take us in the process.
