Id like to whole-heartedly thank EVERYONE who braved the weather and came out to JASAs seventh annual Taste of Japan last night. To all of the volunteers, Taste of Japan wouldnt be what it is every year without you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. This was my third(and final) Taste of Japan as a student at UMD, and each year it has been amazing. I hope all of you, guests and volunteers alike, had an amazing time last night. Id like to make a few special shout-outs: Elisa, the person behind planning this years Taste of Japan. After volunteering for the past several years, this year I asked her to take charge of the entire thing, and as you can see, she did an amazing job. After a long semester of meticulously planning everything for the sake of just one night, she can finally take a breather. Great job Elisa, thank you! Kunio Yasutake and Matuba Restaurant: Thank you for providing us excellent service yet again with your catering for Taste of Japan. Mr. Yasutake has taken amazing care of us whenever hes catered for us, finding ways for us to get more food for less money, as well as showing up to help us with our event hours before we asked him to. For those of you unfamiliar with his restaurant, it is called Matuba and is located on Cordell Avenue in Bethesda. Visit matuba-sushi/ to find out more! While were closing in on the end of the semester, weve got a few more events coming up, some hosted by us and some by other organizations: Next weekend is the JASU Formal. JASU stands for Japanese American Student Union, which is the umbrella group that all of the JASA organizations from schools in the DMV area are joined under. Every year this event is hosted by a different school -- it was at UMD two years ago, and this year it is at American University. The JASU Formal is on April 5th, at 7:30PM. Tickets are $8 and can be bought from our EBoard -- ask myself or Erica Scaduto if you are interested in buying one. JASA will be leaving as a group via DC Metro to go to AU together next weekend; well announce the exact details closer to the date of the event, but well probably leave UMD around 6-6:30PM. After that well have our final general body meeting. Its something weve never done before, and we think youll enjoy it! Were working on the details now, and well make an announcement about it soon! On Saturday, April 12th the Sakura Matsuri(Cherry Blossom Festival) takes place in DC. JASAs G Girls and Soran Bushi dance teams will be performing there, and JASA will be going as a group to have fun, enjoy the various food and performances, and of course support our dance teams. Tickets for the Sakura Matsuri are available online from sakuramatsuri.org -- theyre $8 now and go up to $10 after April 4th, so buy early! Finally, all good things must come to an end.. and as fun as this year has been for those of us on JASAs EBoard, its time for a new Executive Board to be elected. If youre interested in taking a leadership position in JASA, your chance is almost here! Elections will be in late April, and well release more information in the middle of the month. Once more, truly, THANK YOU to everyone who has made JASA and Taste of Japan possible.
