Id love some feedback from you guys! Kentuckianas homeless population is constantly being shifted around, especially with the new bridge work. No matter where they go, it seems they are run-off shortly after. Most people say, why dont they go to a shelter!?, well, the answer is more simple than you might think..... Many of these men have only one friend.....their dog. Dogs arent allowed in any shelters that I am aware of (but I may be mistaken). Trying to load these cold men into the church van, Ive asked why arent you coming?.....the answer is always the same , I cant leave my friend, well be alright.. It breaks my heart, but speaks volumes for the bonds created between these men and their 4-legged pals. They share food they dont have, and blankets they cant spare to care for their furry friends. My family operates a small 501c that mainly operates around the holidays, helping families in need put food on the table, but we are considering changing the charter.... What if there was a place these men could come, and also bring pups into the warm? Perhaps located near some of the larger shelters downtown....where there furry friends would be fed, cared for, perhaps given much needed shots....maybe sponsored by others if medical treatment is needed. Ive seen so many photos and stories of dogs left to freeze in such weather, and I feel like I need to do something. Nothing better than bringing a cold pup in out of the weather, and giving him a warm, safe bed. This would also encourage more men to take advantage of local homeless shelters knowing their friends are safe and warm. Id love some feedback from you guys about this...or maybe some of you would like to be involved.
