Id never heard this...fascinating... 95 years ago today (Sept. 25, 1919) President Woodrow Wilson collapsed in Pueblo, CO...and it started an amazing chapter in US history. He then suffered a stroke a week later... For the next 17 months, an enfeebled Wilson remained on the brink of death, barely able to write his name. All communication with the president went through his wife. She entered the sick room with messages and emerged with verbal instructions or a scrawled signature. Edith Wilson called this period her “stewardship.” Although Wilson’s health improved somewhat, he never fully recovered. The extent of Wilson’s disability remained a well-kept secret until after his death on Feb. 3, 1924. It was subsequently cited as a rationale for passage of the 25th Amendment, which lays out what must be done if a president is unable to perform the functions of his office.
