Id never met Kyle Johnson (Run Westy Run) no even ever seen his band, though I heard them one night when I was working the door at the Entry a lifetime ago. I dont feel any personal loss per se at news of his passing but am somehow saddened by its ripple effect among those who knew and loved him, those of us who count ourselves as part of the Minneapolis Music community, however peripherally and knowing what a profound impact the band he help create was to thousands and thousands of people everywhere. While our paths never crossed, we were somehow, through a strange, intricate series of roots, then branches, the fallen leaves, part of the same family tree. I guess thats the only way I can understand why it is that my usual Saturday morning is more subdued and my heart a wee bit heavier than usual. So many of my Mofos are feeling grief today, and that cant help but reach through the miles and tap me on the shoulder 2,000 miles away. Rest in Peace Mr. Johnson.
