Ideal conditions plus fresh snow as Alpine Hills attraction debuts The conditions were just right last weekend to ride where we reside. Gateway Parks at Alpine Hills Adventure Park and Golf Center, 4402 Larson Ave., Rockford opened last weekend with enough man-made snow for tubing, skiing and snowboarding. The Magic Carpet ski lift also ran all day to take guests up the hill. Mother Nature finally cooperated and the Rockford Park District had enough consistent string of colder temperatures needed to build the 4-foot base of snow in order for the park to open. “We are thrilled to partner with Gateway Parks to bring this world class terrain and tubing park to our community. Residents don’t have to leave home to have some fun this winter,” said Deputy Director of Recreation Laurie Anderson. An official Grand Opening Celebration will take place in January 2015. Gateway Parks is an industry leader in resort development including operations, hospitality and marketing. The Idaho-based limited liability company is run by Ryan Neptune, President of Neptune Industries, Inc., a leading innovator and builder of terrain parks, rails, Olympic super pipes, and resort facilities. Gateway Parks has been designing, building, and constructing snow park venues since 1997. The company also has an operation in Eagle, Idaho. The team includes professionals with core competencies in areas including—but not limited to —snow park design and construction, snowmaking, equipment maintenance, grooming operations and venue design. The snow park has a snowmaking system, and equipment for grooming and surface lift. Gateway Parks will pay the Rockford Park District a percentage of all receipts to help offset the costs of maintaining the park. “I launched Gateway Parks in 2011 to bring the terrain park experience to local communities so that kids of all ages and families could afford to get out and enjoy snow sports right in their hometown,” Neptune said. “Gateway Parks creates an affordable opportunity for kids to enjoy terrain park fun and tubing every day, not just on weekends or holidays. Rockford is the perfect location for Gateway Parks and I am thrilled to be working alongside with the Rockford Park District.” Guests can purchase day tickets on-site at the park’s ticket office. Admission includes access to both the tubing and terrain parks. Tubes are available for free on a first-come, first-served basis. Personal tubes and sleds are not allowed. Normal daily admission rates will be: $15 Resident / $18 Non-Resident; $8 veteran; and free for children under age 3. Gateway Parks will feature high quality ski and snowboard gear and have the personnel to grow the sport through expert instruction.
