Ideas from the Green Drinks Workshop on Climate Change held 8th Oct 2014 (listed in the order groups reported back on their discussions) a) Consume locally produce goods b) Exchange goods to minimize consumerism c) Support local agriculture d) Go local, socially. E.g. re-use spaces, host teach–ins, classrooms, child care – rethink capitalism & social structures e) Behaviour change – how can we contribute? Influence those around us f) Roughly between 40-60% of our electricity is wasted in HK – solution: in the top 2 inches – your brain g) Pedestrian Minister – Govt position to implement more pedestrian friendly commuting h) Make a change within you own area of influence i) Create “Communities of Pressure” via schools and businesses – they can influence local restaurants, businesses to change their service. E.g. lunchboxes – Festival Walk influenced by City U j) Plan B – against incinerator – more recycling, circular economy – roll out in 18 districts – composting etc. k) Saving for retirement – invest in clean industries l) Choice of purchasing m) Stop buying stuff – our addiction to shopping needs to stop n) Pedestrianize Central, and, or other areas such as Mong Kok or Causeway Bay – we need to reduce the Urban Island Heat Effect and our vertical heat density and improve quality of life o) Redirect finances in appropriate directions p) Community energy – need a larger conversation – keep talking – no right answer q) Keep learning - searching and share your feedback Thanks to everyone who attended.
