If Botswana want to be a player in the international music scene, we must take our trade very seriously. Talent alone is highly insufficient to break barriers. Competition organisers and talent scouts must provide young musician’s opportunity to be developed through master classes and some training programs. The international opera singing in Dbn provided an opportunity for young singers to showcase their talents and indeed they did. All singers that performed as young as they were, are by far better than what we have ever heard in recent times. I got jealous. South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland and even Zimbabwe are years ahead of us. We can only bridge the gap by learning and training. We must find ways to encourage the Department of Performing Arts to invest more in supporting initiatives that will enhance growth of young artists. We must encourage basic Education to provide suitable programs that will develop talents into marketable commodities. Once again, I got very jealous. We must do something.
