If Death wears a Shroud copyright aindre reece-sheerin 11 September 2013 If Death wears a Shroud, What then, do Despair, Hope and Joy wear? Death where is thy sting? There is no sting in Death, for it is insidious. Even when expecting its knock on our door It surprises us, how unprepared we are And throws us to the floor Death holds for some the great fear of that which, if anything, is to come Death holds for some, the most blessed of releases and freedom Even Elephants, mourn their loss of friends, family and children, partners too. And yet, Death is nothing without us, for it is we, who give Death emotion, feeling and interpretation. In Nature, Death is just part of the Order of things. It is neither beginning nor is it end. It has neither currency nor weight. It just is. Despair, is the root of all that affects each and every facet of our lives. It pervades Society and how we live out our lives. Despair is no respecter of Social Standing, of moneyed or poor. Despair, gnaws at the very fabric of our existence. Despair, it dirty, seedy; it has a stench about it like nothing else and is something we feed like a tapeworm growing inside us. Although always lurking somewhere in the background, Despair cannot take hold where there is Hope. Hope is all that we as Humans aspire to. ‘I hope you have a lovely birthday’, ‘I hope you enjoy your meal.’ Even in the most trivial, throwaway phrases we use day-to-day, they and we, are imbued with a sense of future, of possibilities, of aspiration and, of success. Hope is what drives us. Hope moves us forwards. Hope lifts us from the deepest depths of despair. Hope finds that infinitesimal chink of light at the end of the tunnel. Hope guides us. Hope leads us to … Joy. Joy, is part of the fulfillment that we as humans require to thrive, to exist, to nature and to nurture. Joy is how we mature and pass on to others our life experiences through sharing; through the care and the way in which we inspire and see others, family, friends or even strangers grow. Joy is and end game, yes. Joy is the sum of all the other parts of our lives, for there is even Joy in Death. The Blessed release that so many grave from long term disease. Joy is so much more than this. Joy is in the eye of everyone. Take time to see and share the joy of life, of love, of living in others. Share your Joy; Plant the seed of Joy in someone else and take the Joy of watching it grow in someone else.
