If GM crops need less pesticide, why is the EPA increasing the permissible level for glyphosate residues? At Monsanto’s request, the Environmental Protection Agency intends to raise the amount of the herbicide glyphosate residue permitted in various feed and food crops. “The allowed level in animal feed will be 100 parts per million and in oilseed crops 40 ppm,” according to GMWATCH. To put that in perspective, a residue of just 2.03 ppm causes malformations in frog and chicken embryos. Glyphosate also kills beneficial gut bacteria in humans and other animals. EPA is accepting comments until 1 July. See gmwatch.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=14807%3Aus-epa-hikes-glyphosate-limits-in-food-and-feed-again
