If I am not mistaken, only two AFL coaches did not play in the AFL - TopicsExpress

If I am not mistaken, only two AFL coaches did not play in the AFL (Les Moss & Ron James) The other 12 head coaches bring AFL playing time to their current positions as Head Coach. Its incredible to see how many current coaches played in the league at the same time. In 1996, 50% of the current coaches were players in the AFL & all those in CAPs were rookies the same year in 1995 (Samuels, GARCIA, DOLEZEL, McMILLEN, OHARA, JOHNSON, Guy). Look how few years played by Arbet (3 AB wins), Guy (3 AB wins) & Keefe (1 AB win), compared to how successful their coaching careers have been & how many AB wins as head coaches. Below is a list of tenure as AFL players. Steve Thonn 1988-1993 Darren Arbet 1988-1989 (3-time AB Champ as head coach) Lawrence Samuels 1994-2010 (3-time AB Champ as a player) Aaron Garcia 1995-2014 (1-time AB Champ as a player) Clint Dolezel 1995-2008 (1-time AB Champ as a player) Bob McMillen 1995-2007 (3-time AB Champ as a player) Pat OHara 1995-2006 (3-time AB Champ as a player) Lee Johnson 1995-1996 (1-time AB Champ as asst. coach) Kevin Guy 1996-1999 (3-time AB Champ as head coach) Matt Sauk 2000-2008 Rob Keefe 2006-2008 (1-time AB Champ as a player, 1 as a head coach) Andy Olson 2008 Ron James did not play in the AFL Les Moss did not play in the AFL (1-time AB Champ as head coach, 3-time AB Champ as asst. coach)
