If I could draw, I would draw an xkcd-style cartoon. It would show a spectrum of music. At one end would be improvisational jazz. At the other end would be someone pressing play on an iPod. In between would be various kinds of music. Live performances by bands and orchestras would cluster towards the more spontaneous, created-in-front-of-you end of the spectrum. Near the other end would be ALL dance music. Yes, sets by DJs like Aviici would be VERY SLIGHTLY closer to the pre-recorded end of the spectrum than sets by "real" DJs who change which pre-recorded tracks they are playing according to their reading of the crowd and do some limited live modification of said prerecorded tracks. But those two things would be very close together. Thus I would visually encapsulate the pointlessness of getting extremely upset about the lack of "proper" DJ skills in EDM today.
