If I give you daleel/evidence for a Hadith, would you 1) know how to check its authenticity and 2) actually go ahead and check it? You probably dont know what saheeh technically means, nor the requirements for saheeh, nor the distinction between saheeh or daeef or Hasan, but youre adamant on seeing a reference number. Why though? What will you do with it? A couple of times Ive given a reference when asked, but only later to realise I mistyped the wrong number. But no one has ever followed me up on that.... A brother mentioned that sh Haitham once said something along the lines of: a student of knowledge shouldnt ask for a daleel, because he should have the ability to go and find it, and a layman has no need for a daleel, even if he has one, what is he to know whether it is acceptable or not? I mean if youre genuinely making academic research then sure why not, but the vast majority of the time a random reference number will just make you feel better/have no feel effect ----------- Heres where I have to state that this status is hereby not an indirect to a specific individual, but rather a common trend Ive noticed.
