If I see one more WHY DO BURGER FLIPPERS THINK THEY DESERVE TO MAKE MORE THAN SOME OF THOSE GETTING SHOT AT IN OUR ARMED FORCES?!?! post Im throwing a kitten out a window. No one is protesting that Mcdonalds employees should make more than an enlisted soldier. That is a completely separate issue. Theyre protesting that they should make a living wage. Let me repeat that. A LIVING WAGE. I worked a job that paid minimum wage when I first went out on my own, planning to work my way through college. I ended up living with no water or electric, dependent on the city bus for transportation, eating nothing but tuna from the Dollar Tree and eventually lost my apartment and was dropped from my courses because I couldnt pay the bills. $7.50 an hour is not a living wage. I dont care if you dont value the skills it takes to be a fast food employee. There is no excuse for the owner of a company to be a multi-millionaire while those at the bottom doing the grunt work are living pay check to pay check. They arent asking to make a six figure salary, theyre asking for enough to pay for shelter and food in exchange for 40 hours of hard labor. That doesnt seem unreasonable to me.
