If I tell you a story you have all heard before will you mind? When my son Zach Mccowin was 5 he went to the pool party of a little guy in his class that had some fairly serious developmental delays - the mom spent the first part of the party sitting next to him trying to coax him into a life jacket - which he was having none of - all of the sudden Zach and his buddy hop out of the pool and walk over to the big rack of life jackets, put one on and go sit next to the birthday guy at the edge of the pool come on they say - life jackets are fun - it was such a telling moment - and so indicative of who he was to become - quietly compassionate, innately empathetic - thinking and acting as to make your surroundings a better place and to lead those people that surround him in kindness, thoughtfulness and a good deal of hilarity. He is the one you can go to quietly with a problem - or the one that stands up in the dining hall and gets the whole place to sing Sponge Bob Squarepants - he is the kid magnet at church, the one that gets a picture with Wayne Coyne at his concert - Zach, I say this to you - sure, you may be little unsure where life is going - you are 19 - life should be a little uncertain - but this IS for certain - all that you are today, all that is loved and looked up to, all that makes you raise your eyebrows, shake your head and laugh, all will go with you into that future and there is no telling or no limit as to where that future may lead - I am so beyond blessed to be your mom - and I know you dont get it, but EVERYWHERE I go, people stop me and tell me what a fine young man Ive raised - I have to stop them and say I cant really take credit - you really just came that way. So here it is, Happy Birthday - you may be 64, but you will always be my little guy, I love you to infinity and beyond and I cant wait to celebrate with you and your friends tonight!
