If I think in all the transformative, rupturing and urgent events happening in the world... If I consider all the essential debates and practices refashioning the concept of the documentary in contemporary art and culture... then, I only can conclude that this "Top 100 Photos of the Year 20122 kind-of-list is deceiving at the least. In many instances presents image-making as photography, and reduces it to a colonizing practice of apprehension and surveillance. How about photography a practice working with questions of nomadism, the collective bodies, other possibilities of life in the margins, unhomeliness, and desterritorialization of languages, and bodies? How about the documentary as a social practice that rather than making everything visible, demarcates the difficulty of knowing certain things through images, the middle point between visibility and invisibility, about uncertainty? socialphy/posts/images-pics/18561/Top-100-Photos-of-the-Year-2012.html
