If I was in charge of The Simpsons, to make it fresh again, I would start aging the characters like in the comic strip For Better or Worse. It would make for new interesting ideas for the main Simpson characters again, bringing them to the front of the stories once more and start a natural-feeling path to the shows eventual end. Age The Simpsons gradually, in real time. The inciting incident to explain why The Simpsons and Springfield werent aging and now they are alone would be a fantastic episode. Dont you want to see where Lisa Simpson is in high school? Homer on his way to retirement? What used to make The Simpsons work was how invested we were in that family and town. They were cartoons we CARED about, not just jokes.
