If I went to the As game last night, I wouldve been pretty upset. - TopicsExpress

If I went to the As game last night, I wouldve been pretty upset. The people that ended up going to the game, ended up disappointed because of a rainout. Now let me tell you about this rainout. First off, it wasnt rained out because of the rain occurring at the time, it was rained out because of unplayable conditions. You could see As manager Bob Melvin stick the heel of his shoe into the infield around 2nd base and it went in a good 2 inches. How could this happen? SOME IDIOTS DIDNT PUT A TARP ON THE FIELD OVER NIGHT. It wasnt likely to rain, but there was still a good chance of it, ESPECIALLY since it had been raining all week. Now heres the best part: from the get go, everyone knew that this game couldnt be played due to the incompetence of whoevers call it was to tarp or not to tarp, yet, the game wasnt officially postponed until 20 minutes or so after the scheduled 7:05 start. The first person to have gone on that field (batting practice takes place a few hours before the game, and even if it was canceled, someone wouldve gone out there to check right?) shouldve been able to tell that there was no way a game couldve been played on that field. Yet, they wait. They wait until all the fans waste a tank of gas to get there. They wait until the parking lot was jammed (due to a dual event night (Warriors game, which I was at)), they waited until every fan either made the trip via BART (and spent probably somewhere between 5-10 bucks to get there and back), they waited until fans struggled for a parking spot and burned up 20 bucks due to the ridiculously overpriced parking, they waited until most of the fans went to the concession stands and bought the disgustingly overpriced yet subpar food of the O.Co Coliseum, buying things such as beer, hot dogs, drinks, etc. They waited until some fans had gone to the team store and spent $40 bucks on a freaking shirt (no not a jersey, a shirt). They waited until the majority of fans spent a near 100 bucks (due to BART or the ridiculously overpriced parking, the disgustingly overpriced food, as well as team merchandise). Then they called the game. Absolutely sickening. They knew there wasnt going to be baseball, yet they wouldnt call it yet. They just had to inconvenience every diehard fan and STEAL $100 or so from them. I didnt even go, yet Im infuriated. Im in a lot of As fan groups on Facebook and everyone is deeply angered by the travesty of the Oakland ownership/ballpark management. How could they let this happen? Oh yeah they can, they dont care about the fans. Neither do the majority of the people working at O.Co. I guarantee that if we dont guilt and bombard ownership into admitting their mishandling of the situation as well as the incompetence of whoever they appointed to decided whether to tarp or not to tarp, as well as the grounds crew (who should of put a tarp over it regardless), that this will happen again. Im positive that something like this will occur again. Now dont get me wrong here, Im a diehard Oakland As fan. Ive always been. I love every player on the team, I love every coach, I love the people who work for the team (people like Steve Vucivich, Ray Fosse, Glenn Kuiper, and Dick Callahan, NOT the people who work for O.Co), I worship Billy Beane, and I just love the TEAM to death. However, the ownership and the majority of the O.Co work force, I do not appreciate. Overall, this is just saddening mostly, that such an amazing team has to play in a stadium full of a bunch of idiots (Dont worry, not talking about the fans). I urge those who went to the game to further complain to ownership, the coliseum, and the ticketing people, to maybe help prevent such a travesty from ever occurring again. Remember, this is coming from a guy who didnt even go to the game, Im just a diehard As fan looking out for the good of all my people (all of the As fans), and I just dont think they can pull something like this and get away with it.
