If I were a teacher and some of my students asked me to give them - TopicsExpress

If I were a teacher and some of my students asked me to give them an automatic pass because theyd been attending protests, the first thing I would do is ask them to prove that theyd actually been at protests and how much time theyd spent there. . If they passed that hurdle, the next thing Id do is check their grade level as of the time they dropped out. If they had been getting a C or lower, I might (!) be inclined to convert the course to an audit so they could retake it next term, but I wouldnt let them take tests or hand in coursework late. . If they were pulling a B or above, I would ask them to do two extra term papers, above and beyond what was required of the other students who didnt bug out. One paper would be entitled: Why protesting was more important to me than going to class. The second would be entitled: A recent history of community-police relations in America. . If those who were absent could convince me, in these term papers, that theyd gotten something valuable out of the time theyd missed, and they understood the issues in play, then I would let them take all the tests theyd missed and turn in other required material late, without penalty. The convincing papers would then be anonymized and posted on-line for other students to read. . Any absent student who failed to convince me that they understood the significance of protest in general (and these protests in particular) would be flunked. . newsnet5/news/local-news/oh-lorain/students-at-oberlin-college-seek-a-pass-on-failing-grades-because-they-were-out-protesting
