If Jesus is not God, then we are not saved for his Sacrifice on the Cross avails us nothing. We know from Sacred Scripture that Jesus is God: (See John 1:1). I do not expect atheists, agnostics, or secular progressive pagans to believe this. Yet there are some Christians who deny that Jesus is God. Certainly it is clear that Catholics and the Orthodox believe that Jesus is God because they take Sacred Scripture very seriously. Others may admit He is the Son of God, but do not believe He has a Divine and a human nature. The Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden demanded a perfect sacrifice to restore us to Grace. The sacrifice of a mere man would be insufficient to expiate for the sins of all men. Only the sacrifice of the perfect God-man Jesus Christ was sufficient. This is the sign of God’s love for us that He sent His own Son, Who alone possessed the same Divine nature as His Father: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
